What Is Biomedical Engineering?

Biomedical Engineering is a branch of science that deals with medical problems. BME is a complex field which consists of medicine, biology, computer science, and mechanical engineering. Biomedical engineers are basically making artificial limbs, designing the structure to be similar to a normal human organ, and designing the mechanical structure to maintain the best quality for humans.

One of the earliest basic examples created by Egyptians 3000 years ago because humans needed to develop life-enhancing tools. Years and years, BME has been growing much faster than the average for all occupations from 2012 to 2019. Imagination is one of the significant elements because If you want to create a device, it should be cheaper, faster, and accurate than the other created devices. It is an amazing and inspiring point that If a biomedical engineer creates something, he may save thousands of lives.

A biomedical engineer can create prosthesis, surgical systems/devices, artificial organs and more. Here is the example of interesting prosthetic devices:

1- Tattoo Handed Man: French artist JC Sheitan Tenet has a really interesting prosthetic arm which is a tattoo machine.

2- Prosthetic Hands For Children: There are lots of prosthetic arms to children who lost their arms. Scientists modelled a cool limb such as Iron Man’s arm to feel better in a social area.

3- Advanced Arms: the University of Utah created one of the most advanced prosthetic arms that are able to sense touch using neurological electrodes.

According to the Academic Ranking Of World Universities, Harvard, Shanghai Jiao Tong, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Universities are the best universities for biomedical engineering. The biomedical engineering salary naturally is going up because the CoronaVirus pandemic created more demand in the job market and many countries still need respirators. Approximately, they are earning over $90,000 annually.

In the future, biomedical engineering will be more famous because the field of medicine and technology look like a book that is not finished. After graduation, they can be a researcher, software engineer, physician, and more. As a freshman student of biomedical engineering, I am passionate about my job and science. I hope that BME will save lots of lives.
